It’s Been A Wild Ride!

It seems completely unreal that two whole months have flown by since the previous issue of our newsletter. But what an amazing time we’ve had…

By far the highlight of the second half of our year is always awards season. And goodness! What a season it has been. Our 2017 Apogée Chardonnay is doing amazingly well. Read more about this incredible wine, the prestigious Michaelangelo Trophy we came home with, and all the other awards our wines have garnered, below. We’re exceedingly proud to be one of only two chardonnay producers to be awarded a score above 95 points in this year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition.

The La Vierge team is welcoming a new sheep into the flock. Brand-spanking new Farm Manager, Neill Gellatly, joins us at an interesting time. Yet, he says he’s up for the challenge!

Award Focus

All That Glitters Is Gold!

We are midway through the 2019 award season. And, although we’re waiting on a few more announcements, we simply could not wait to share the great news we have already received.

Our pride and joy…

It really is no coincidence that “apogee” translated from the French means “highest point in the development of something, a climax”, because that is very relevant to this spectacular wine.

The first clue that we should prepare ourselves for great things, is when the results of the Tim Atkin Report were released and our 2017 Apogée Chardonnay scored 95 points. It was quickly followed by 96 points at the International Wine & Spirit Competition. But, by far the pinnacle is the 2019 Michaelangelo Chardonnay Trophy.

What an incredible feeling of pride!

That’s Not All…

At the 6th annual Gold Wine Awards we received gold medals for both our 2018 Original Sin Sauvignon Blanc and 2017 Seduction Pinot Noir.

At the 2019 Vitis Vinifera Awards, we walked away with no less than three Gold medals for our 2018 Jezebelle Chardonnay, 2018 Original Sin Sauvignon Blanc and our 2018 The Affair Pinot Noir.

Four of our wines made us exceptionally proud when we received this year’s Tim Atkin Report: 2017 Apogée Chardonnay– 95 points, 2015 Apogée Pinot Noir – 92 points, 2014 Royal Nymphomane – 92 points

The International Wine & Spirit Competition awarded us a gold medal for our 2017 Apogée Chardonnay and three silver medals for our 2015 Apogée Pinot Noir, 2018 Jezebelle Chardonnay and 2015 La Vierge Noir Pinot Noir.

There’s A New Man In-Charge

It’s with great excitement that we welcome newly appointed Farm Manager, Neill Gellatly, to our team.

He is passionate about the symbiosis between food and wine – an interest that already bodes very well for his future at La Vierge! This dynamic young man has quite a few harvests under his belt already.

He brings us his extensive experience – he travelled so far as the USA and Australia for some of it! Neill loves a challenge and with his determination, work ethic and result-driven attitude we are looking forward to his contribution to our Babylon Farm vineyards.

During the winter months, we launched hearty savoury tasting platters. These performed so well that we’ve extended their run until the end of November.
