La Vierge Restaurant & Tasting Room - Where Wine Leads

A place for slow lunches, thoughtful tastings, and easy company.

La Vierge Restaurant and Tasting Room looks out over the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, with sweeping views that stretch from vineyard to ocean. The food is premium yet grounded — seasonal ingredients handled with quiet confidence, prepared to celebrate flavour and connection.

A Kitchen That Follows the Cellar

Here, the wine leads. The menu is built to honour what’s in the glass first, with plates that highlight rather than compete. Working with seasonal, local produce, Executive Chef Rachel van Zyl’s sharing-plate style invites conversation and connection over wholesome food. Order a few dishes to share, sample our wines side by side, and stay a little longer with the ones you love most.

Brunch is served on weekends, with lunch available from Tuesday to Sunday. For those who prefer something lighter, our platters and dedicated wine pairings are offered throughout the day for guests who prefer a more relaxed tasting pace.

Talk about simple pleasures: pairing something fresh from the kitchen with a view that seems to change by the hour can feel like the kind of memory that belongs to family, friends, and shared tables.

The Époisses Affair

Some stories become dishes. Years ago, in the French town of Nuits-Saint-Georges, our winemaker Christo Kotze tasted a pasta so memorable he brought the idea home — but couldn’t remember its name.

When Executive Chef Rachel van Zyl arrived, the two retraced the flavour until it found its title again: Époisses cheese pasta. Today it’s served table-side for two, paired with an older vintage of our Owner’s Reserve Pinot Noir. It’s simple, generous, and quietly indulgent.

Tastings, Stories, and the Valley in the Glass

Our Tasting Room is relaxed and guided by a team that knows our wines and our valley, never formal for formality’s sake.

Tastings feature the La Vierge Range and Story Teller Collection, led by hosts who love sharing the stories and philosophy behind each bottle. Christo’s personal favourite is the Story Teller Chardonnay — a cool-climate expression that carries clarity and restraint. Guests can enjoy tastings by the glass, flight, or bottle, and pair them with cheeses, charcuterie, or an interactive platter for a deeper experience.

Families Welcome

La Vierge offers a setting that feels as comfortable for families as it does for couples or friends. A dedicated kiddies menu and a simple kids’ pairing of snacks with juice or a small milkshake ensure younger guests feel included while adults unwind over lunch and a tasting, framed by the valley beyond.

Celebrate Life in the Valley

Weddings, launches, and private gatherings all seem to fall naturally into place here — the setting lends itself to celebrations that feel personal rather than staged. The view, the wines, and an attentive team create space for moments people remember for the right reasons.

Summer Sunset Sessions

This December, we’re launching Summer Sunset Sessions in our Tasting Room. It’s a simple idea: arrive before the sun dips, enjoy a glass or two, relax, and watch the sun take its leave — all with live music in the background..
