Oak Cottage
Set high on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, our farm lies within a natural amphitheatre, just 8km from our Winery, Tasting Room, and Restaurant.
This is a working farm, and you feel it as you arrive. Vines shape the slopes, fynbos and wild flowers shift with the seasons, guinea fowl move freely across the lawns, tractors hum in the distance, and our team tends to the vineyards as part of the everyday rhythm of the farm.
At the heart of it all is Oak Cottage. The oldest building in this part of the Hemel-en-Aarde, it now houses our deli and serves as the starting point for our farm experiences. Rolling lawns and shaded glens invite families and friends to slow down and spend time outdoors together.
Vineyard Picnics
Picnics are the main event on the farm. Our pre-prepared picnic baskets are packed with freshly made foods, with guests selecting their wines when placing their picnic orders. Each basket includes a picnic blanket, and you are invited to find your spot, stretch out, and enjoy an unhurried afternoon on the lawn or beneath the oaks.
24hr pre-ordering is required, so your basket is ready on arrival. If you haven’t pre-ordered, you are welcome to put together a picnic from the freshly made foods available at the deli on the day.
Picnic timeslots run from Wednesday through to Sunday 11:00 to 15:00, offering plenty of time to settle in and enjoy the farm at your own pace.
The Oak Cottage Picnic basket – R650 per basket.
Presented with a charcuterie box – including a selection of two local cheeses, two local cured meats, fresh seasonal fruit, breadsticks and a lemon and thyme marmalade, a ham and Bergkase sandwich, a chicken and avocado wrap, an autumnal salad as well as a sweet treat – a rich chocolate brownie and a white chocolate pecan blondie.
Kiddies Picnic Basket – R150 per basket
Includes a Gypsy ham and cheddar cheese sandwich. A seasonal fruit cup, cheese breadstick, rich and decadent brownie.

Deli at Oak Cottage
Oak Cottage deli is designed for relaxed farm days. Choose from a seasonal offering of crafted sandwiches and wraps, vibrant salads, savoury pâtés, delicate mousses, small-batch jams and preserves, raw honey, refined sweet bakes, and a handpicked selection of artisanal treats and gifts.
Wine tastings and pairings are also available.
Vineyard Tour and Tasting
Our guided vineyard walk offers a relaxed way to explore the farm and its landscape. The experience lasts 45 minutes and includes five stops, with a Story Teller wine to taste at each stop. Along the way, you will hear about our vines and the wines, ask questions, and gain a closer understanding of how this ridge shapes what ends up in the glass.
Children are welcome to join the walk too. Keep an eye out for animals, nature, and farm sights along the route, and do not forget to tick them off on the trail bingo card.

For the Kids
Kids are welcome at La Vierge. With a watchful eye, they are free to explore the sights, sounds, smells and textures of our farm.
There is also a secure play area with a childminder, that includes a trampoline, jungle gym, mini boules court and a variety of playthings for little ones to enjoy while parents relax nearby on their picnic blankets.
Events: Valentine's Sunset Picnic
Our Valentine’s Sunset Picnic at Oak Cottage offers a relaxed way to spend a summer afternoon on the farm. Set against the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, the experience runs from 4:00pm to 6:30pm and includes live music and uninterrupted vineyard views as the sun sets.
Each picnic is designed for two guests and includes a curated picnic selection and a bottle of our Story Teller Pinot Noir. Children are welcome to join.
Oak Cottage will remain open and operating as usual throughout the day, with the sunset picnic taking place in the late afternoon.
R800 per picnic (for two guests).
A 50% deposit is required to secure your booking.
